The 50 megapixel primary camera has pixels that are 1.2 mm wide, an aperture of /1.85, and an angle of vision of 82 degrees. Without using a second lens, the primary camera does provide a 2x zoom owing to a 12.5MP crop.
The f/2.2 aperture 12MP ultrawide camera follows the same pattern, with the exception that its newer 125.8-degree FOV is larger than that of its predecessor’s 114-degree FOV. Additionally, it receives a new Macro Focus auto-focus feature to enhance the quality of close-up photographs.
Upgrades are most noticeable in the telephoto camera, which features a 48MP sensor and a 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and a Super Res Zoom of up to 30x. This telephoto camera will benefit from Google’s Tensor G2’s improved image signal processing and computational photography, which will especially help with stabilization when zoomed in at 30x. The pixel micrometer size and range of vision have somewhat decreased, but we anticipate that AI intelligence will make up for it.

Wired charging continues to be at 30 watts, and Qi wireless charging is also available. When devices like the OnePlus 10 Pro offer 85W charging rates, this is a tad disappointing. But in everyday usage, the Pixel 6 Pro never seemed like it charged too slowly, so we don’t anticipate the Pixel 7 Pro to have the same issue.

The Pixel 7 Pro’s 5x optical zoom is one of its best features. This is a first for the Pixel, beating out models like the iPhone 14 Pro, but falling short of the 10x zoom offered by the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. And with Super Res zoom, the phone makes advantage of its 48-megapixel telephoto lens and Tensor G2 to take incredibly detailed pictures. Furthermore, Google claims that the phone can take excellent photos at 2x, 10x, and 30x magnification thanks to the Tensor G2 chip’s power.
The phone’s 50-megapixel camera captures a photo at 2x–4x zoom, and then it is cropped to get that clear image. The phone uses both the 50-megapixel main and 48-megapixel telephoto lenses at 10x zoom, and then crops in to capture another detailed image. The phone employs its two cameras once again at 30x magnification; with the addition of cropping and the Tensor G2 processor, the phone captures distant photographs more skillfully than before. The new sensor-cropping zoom helps the Pixel 7 as well, although it still doesn’t have a separate telephoto camera for zoom images.
The Pixel 7 Pro also boasts “Face Unlock,” which enables users to unlock their handsets with their faces, in addition to the new telephoto lens. The fact that Face Unlock will only be used for phone unlocking and that customers will still need to use their PIN number or fingerprint to activate features like mobile payments is an intriguing caveat.
The device also has macro photography capabilities that enable 3-cm-distance close-up images. Many people would think this is nice, yet strangely, many entry-level and midrange phones have this capability. It would be fascinating to see whether the quality of these macro photographs matches that of, instance, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, which has a specific camera for taking close-up photos.
You can also anticipate faster night mode capture, photo unblur (even if the shot was taken years ago on a different phone), and an updated Real Tone on the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro.
